Pine Tree Acres Landfill

eBird lists Pine Tree Acres as a restricted access-hotspot.

WM's Pine Tree Acres landfill on 29 Mile Rd. just east of Gratiot (Lenox Twp.) is host to a variety of Gulls, plus Turkey Vultures, Bald Eagle, Kestrels, and Hawks. There are marshy wetlands adjoining the landfill where Heron, Egret, Canada Geese, Mergansers, and a variety of waterfowl stop by during their migration and season in SE Michigan. Pine Tree Acres is privately owned property of WM but provides annual tour experiences for Macomb Audubon Society. Watch for field trips to be posted on this website. If you visit on your own, you won't be able to access the property but you can see many of these avian visitors along 29 and 28 Mile Rds. Nearby on Frost Rd. at I-94 south of 27 Mile is another gravel pit that is now abandoned and a privately owned lake. No admittance allowed but the whole lake can be seen from Frost Rd. Spring and fall offers views of many duck, geese, grebe, and gull species!
